Consumer-Driven
Health Care (CDHC)
The Smart
Alternative to the High Cost of
Health Insurance

The
Revolution ... Behind the Scenes
The cost of health care continues to climb. Fewer and fewer
people can afford health insurance. However, there is hope.
In the past 15 years a quiet revolution has been taking place.
The idea was this; if consumers were responsible for paying
for health care they would hold the course of the escalations.
Meaning that consumers can largely control the price of health
care like any other product or service that is consumer driven.
|
If
you owned a fruit stand and your fruit was just as good
as the guy down the street, but your charge 50% more guess
where people are going to buy their produce? ... That's
right, their going to the guy down the street! Same product
... less money. A simple example, but you get the point.
Something
Else is Here ... Choose your Model
Two different models have come to
light, one is insurance-driven and the other is consumer-driven.
The insurance-driven model is called a health savings account
(HSA) and has been promoted by the government hoping to
use the existing health-insurance system.
|
 |
 |
HSA's give
the consumer the opportunity use the account like a credit
card, but strictly for health care expenses. The consumer
has more control over where and how their health care dollar
is spent.
The value of HSA's is that
they are used independent of influence from employers,
benefits personnel, HMO's, insurers, etc. The consumer
uses the HSA as they see fit for medically related purposes.
HSA's are attached to regular insurance plans, but with
higher deductibles and lower premiums. HSA's can be rolled
over and accumulated, as well as invested. They are also
pretax dollars, making them very similar to an IRA account.
|
It's not
insurance ... It's Discounted Rates.
In the case of consumer-driven health care there
are provider/discount health plans.
These plans allow individuals without health insurance or
limited insurance to get coverage. That is, these plans are
not insurance, but they cover the members for doctors, dentists, chiropractors,
labs, pharmacies and even hospitals -
but it's all discounted 30-50 percent. Members agree to pay
for their discounted services by cash, check or credit card.
There's no third party involved, no insurance claim forms,
No HMO's.
HSA's and provider access/discount
plans can be used together to double the value of
the HSA's. CDHC is here to stay and is catching on with
corporate America, small business and
individuals.

America's
Health Care ... Fantastic Quality ... Can you Afford
It?
We have fantastic health care in the United States, so quality
is not a problem. However, access to the health care remains
a hurdle for the majority of Americans ... we make too much
to qualify for Medicaid and not enough to afford expensive
monthly premiums. In this middle group are also most of the
self-employed and/or small businesses. This group of entrepreneurs
typically can't afford health insurance for themselves without
raising the price point of their goods and services so high
that they would not be able to compete in their market place.
|
As you can see these business
owners can't afford health insurance for themselves so you
can bet with the employer's contribution to premiums averaging
over $7,000 a year per person that their employees are not
getting health insurance either.
Is Consumer-Driven Health
Care the Answer?
That question is one you'll have to decide for yourself,
but for many people the answer is a resounding "YES!" CDHC
is simple for both the provider and the patient and it is
vastly different from insurance in the following ways
- NO Ongoing Medical Problem Exclusions
- NO Waiting Periods
- NO Long Term Commitments
- NO Age Limits
- NO Hassles ... and
- NO Limits to How Many Visits or Number of Services
|
 |
 |
How
Does CDHC Really Work?
As mentioned above, DOCTORS and PROVIDERS in a network ACCEPT
the DISCOUNTED RATE in exchange for payment (or terms) at
time of service. You (the patient) pay for the service and
the provider does not have to wait for payment and/or authorization
... NO additional paperwork, NO hassles, NO middleman! Your
level of health care is up to you and your doctor ... the
way it should be!
